ABOUT THE OUTFITTER

Owner and Operator Cabot Pitts

We operate in 3 guide-exclusive concessions. One located on the Alaskan Peninsula and two in the Wrangell St. Elias Mountains. Holding these sole guide use permits with the National Park Service, in the Katmai Preserve and Wrangell St. Elias Preserve, allows Alaska Wild Wind Adventures the only outfitter permitted to conduct guided hunts within these areas. Encompassing close to 250 square miles of the richest salmon spawning areas in the state, our Katmai area holds one of the world’s largest populations of brown bears. Isolated deep in the Wrangell Mountains our two concessions there hold great numbers of game species. With a limited amount of tags and a long term permit obligations with the National Park Service, we have an invested interest in managing and preserving our areas to harbor the best hunting Alaska can offer. These limited tags and exclusive guiding rights allow us to manage our area to the highest degree and increases the opportunity of potentially harvesting record book brown bear, dall sheep, Alaskan-Yukon moose, inland grizzly bear and black bear. AWWA also holds permitting to operate on BLM and State land areas adjoining our exclusive concessions, offering an even greater opportunity to make your adventure successful.

ABOUT THE HUNTS

Katmai Brown Bear

Alaskan Peninsula hunts are held in our guide-exclusive concession in the Katmai Preserve and surrounding areas. The Sugarloaf area of the Katmai Preserve covers roughly 220 square miles of prime brown bear feeding and denning habitat. The Katmai Park and Preserve is known for its high concentration of brown bears. Our concession borders the Katmai State Park on the southern boundary and the McNeil River State Game Sanctuary is due east of our easterly boundary. The large numbers of salmon that rear and spawn in our concession each fall are a critical food source that results in the excessively high numbers of brown bears that call our area home. With a limited amount of tags per year, we focus on trophy-sized boars in the 9½ to 10 foot plus range, with record book potential. Our land and animal stewardship result in some of the best brown bear hunting opportunities that one can expect. The highest tent based accommodations, catered with great meals and phenomenal experienced guides make this hunt enjoyable for any hardcore hunter in search of the hunt of a lifetime. Being located in Unit 9 the Alaskan Peninsula, our seasons run the spring of even years (2022, 2024) and falls of odd years (2021, 2023).

Alaska-Yukon Moose

Focusing on high trophy quality combined with a very customized personal hunt, we offer a few moose hunts in our exclusive concession each year. The Wrangell St. Elias Preserve harbors excellent trophy moose with a longer season running September 1 – 30, which makes this hunt easily combined with other species (Dall Sheep and Grizzly Bear). These are prime late season rut hunts.

AWWA runs a traditional base-camp style camp. You will leave camp every day and hunt from established spotting knobs. Calling and glassing will be utilized to attract and spot trophy bull moose.

Camps are comfortable with a mix of fresh food and freeze-dried, a 10×10 cook tent, and 10×10 sleep tents, or similar accommodations.

Dall Sheep

This hunt is held in our two guide exclusive concessions within the Wrangell St. Elias Park and Preserve. There has been a proven track record of great quality and consistent numbers of sheep over the years. Being very selective on harvest, these areas offer high success and excellent opportunities at trophy rams in the 36” to 40”+ range. Hunters will fly into base camp where gear will be gathered, and a more traditional backpack style sheep hunt will take place. Spike camps located 5 plus miles from base camps will be utilized, and hunters should be prepared and able to carry at least a 60-pound pack to and from these spike camps. At this point, hunters will then go on day trips out of that location. Inland Grizzly Bear, Black Bear, Wolf and Wolverine can be added on a trophy fee basis.

Inland Grizzly and Black Bear Combo

This hunt is conducted within our two guide exclusive areas in the Wrangell St. Elias Preserve. A spring Interior Grizzly Bear and Black Bear hunt, located on prime glassing knobs to spot boars emerging from denning country, looking for sows in heat. With long day light hours to hunt, this makes for an amazing experience and chance at harvesting an Interior Grizzly Bear and Black Bear. These hunts are ten days and include one Grizzly Bear harvest and one Black Bear harvest.
